Dr. Raymond C. Stevens Ph.D. is Professor of Molecular Biology and Chemistry at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California. Dr. Stevens served as a Scientific Founder of Receptos, Inc. Dr. Stevens founded MemRx Corporation and Co-Founder of Takeda California, Inc. He consults part-time for several biotech companies in the area of structural biology and structure-based drug design. He has helped to pioneer the area of high throughput structural biology, establishing ... several National Institutes of Health supported structural biology research centers. He serves as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board at Sagres Discovery, Inc. He serves as a Director of Anaphore, Inc. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board of ProTherapeutics Pte Ltd. He served as a Director of Receptos, Inc. He has been a Member of the Supervisory Board of BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., since February 2004. Dr. Stevens joined Scripps in 1999. Dr. Stevens was Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Neurobiology at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a chaired professorship at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. Dr. Stevens has published over 150 papers and earned nine patents, focusing primarily on the determination of novel protein structures using X-ray crystallography. Dr. Stevens has published more than 240 peer reviewed publications in the past 20 years, focusing primarily in the area of structural biology and structure based drug discovery including involvement in the development of Tamiflu™, Kuvan™, PEG-PAL™, and Alogliptin™. Dr. Stevens received numerous awards in the area of structural biology, including the Sidhu Award (1992), the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator Award (1994), and the Beckman Foundation's Young Investigator Award (1994). Dr. Stevens obtained his PhD in Chemistry with Robert Bau and George Olah (Nobel Prize, 1994) from the University of Southern California and conducted his post-doctoral research in structural biology with Professor William Lipscomb (Nobel Prize, 1976) at Harvard University.
