Background

Mr. Paul F. Brown, JD, serves as Managing Director of Sandbox Industries Inc., Sandbox Ventures, L.P. Mr. Brown serves as the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Managing Director and Assistant of Corporate Secretary at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). He joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association in 2002. He joined Sandbox Industries in 2010 and started collaborating with Sandbox on the fund’s design and management. He serves as Vice President ... of Venturing and Deputy General Counsel at BCBSA. He manages the day-to-day operations of BCBSA's 20-attorney Law x BCBSA's General Counsel. He designed and raised the capital for the Fund and manages it in a unique partnership with Sandbox Industries and senior executives from the participating Blue Plans. Mr. Brown provides legal advice to BCBSA's Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and senior BCBSA staff. He also advises on matters of corporate governance, intellectual property, antitrust and competition, government programs, contracts, employee benefits, and employment law. Prior to this, he was a Partner at Kirkland & Ellis. He serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Bloom, Capson Corp. and Nexidia, Inc. He has been a Director of Phreesia, Inc. since February 2009. Mr. Brown served as the Fund’s designated Observer to the Board of Initiate Systems, Inc. He received a J.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1992 and a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science degrees from the University of Utah in 1989.
