Mr. Newton N. Minow has been Counsel to the law firm of Sidley & Austin since 1991. Mr. Minow was a Partner in the law firm of Stevenson, Rifkind & Wirtz. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy appointed Mr. Minow serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Communications Commission. He served as Partner of Sidley & Austin from 1965 to 1991. He served as a U.S. Army Sergeant in the China-Burma India Theater in World War II. His career includes service as Law Clerk ... to Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson of the U.S. Supreme Court and as Assistant Counsel to Governor Adlai E. Stevenson. He served in the Kennedy Administration until 1963 and was its Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. In 1965, he joined the law firm of Leibman, Williams, Bennett, Baird & Minow, which merged with Sidley & Austin in 1972. Mr. Minow served as Chairman of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, an Advisory Trustee and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The RAND Corporation and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Public Broadcasting Service. He served as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission from 1961 to 1963. He serves as a Director of Common Sense Media, Inc., Sara Lee Corporation, Aon Corporation, Foote, Cone & Belding and Manpower, Inc. He serves as Emeritus Public Trustee of Mayo Clinic Rochester and Mayo Clinic Health Systems. He serves as a Member of Board of Advisors at Common Sense Media, Inc. Mr. Minow is a Life Trustee of the University of Notre Dame and a Life Trustee of Northwestern University. He served as a Director of Common Sense Media, Inc. He served as a Director of Vertis Inc. since September 1996. Mr. Minow has written four books and numerous magazine articles.
