Dr. Bustin has over 30 years experience in unconventional gas exploration and exploitation in industry, research and consultancy. He was employed by Mobil Oil Canada and Gulf Canada Resources prior to joining the faculty at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Bustin undertakes senior research in unconventional oil and gas. His professional experience includes: Elf-Aquitaine (France), CSIRO (France), CNRS (Australia), Consulted and functioned as a Director and technical advisor for a variety of small through large petroleum companies in Europe, Africa, North America and Asia. Dr. Bustin has been a Director of East West Petroleum Corp. (formerly Avere Energy Inc.) since October 29, 2010. He has been Member of Advisory Board at East West Petroleum since July 2010. Dr. Bustin has been a Member of Board of Advisors of Dejour Enterprises Ltd. since October 2008. He served as a Director of Dejour Enterprises Ltd., from August 30, 2005 to October 2008 and its Member of Board of Advisors since May 13, 2005. He served as a Director of American Oil & Gas Inc. from December 13, 2002 to March 24, 2004. Dr. Bustin served as Member of Advisory Board at Gulfside Minerals Ltd. He served as a Member of the Technical Advisory Board at Forum Uranium Corp. Dr. Bustin has published over 180 scientific articles on fossil fuels. He has been an Associate Editor of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geology Bulletin, Sedimentary Geology, the International Journal of Coal Geology and the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences. Dr. Bustin is a member of the International Congress on the Carboniferous and Permian (ICCP). He is a member of American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Society for Organic Petrology (TSOP) and Geological Society of America (GSA). Dr. Bustin was a recipient of the Al Levorsen Memorial Award from the AAPG; the Thiesson Medal from the International Committee for Coal Petrology in 2002 for his contributions to coal sciences/organic petrology; the Sproule Award in 2003 for his contributions to the study of unconventional gas resources; and received the Reinhardt Thiessen Medal Award from the International Committee for Coal Petrography in 2002 for his contributions to coal sciences and organic petrology. In 2003 he received the Sproule Award for contributions to the study of unconventional gas resources. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Dr. Bustin is a registered Professional Geoscientist in the Province of British Columbia. He received his Ph.D. in Geology in 1980 from the University of British Columbia.
