He is the Vice-Chair of the California Commission on Access to Justice and Chair of Californians for Legal Aid. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of San Francisco. He received a B.A. from Harvard University in 1975 and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1978.
