He also has participated in numerous FTC and Department of Justice investigations of mergers under the antitrust laws in the supermarket, auto parts, industrial pump, book publishing, electric circuit breaker, food processing, pharmaceutical, electronic data services, and pipeline transportation industries and has provided antitrust counseling, particularly on distribution, health care, insurance industry, trade association, pharmaceutical industry and intellectual property issues. Mr. Rosdeitcher argued two important cases in the United States Supreme Court, one involving interpretation of the antitrust exemption for the insurance industry and the other, a highly publicized case involving the question of whether a parody of the rock classic "Oh Pretty Woman" was a fair use within the meaning of the copyright laws. He also has had an extensive appellate practice before federal circuit courts and New York State appellate courts involving such issues as the constitutionality of state-mandated health insurance benefits, the constitutionality of extraterritorial application of New Jersey’s franchise termination law, New York’s standards for punitive damages in insurance claims litigation, the applicability of the antitrust laws to physician peer review, whether the federal government had a duty to indemnify asbestos manufacturers for asbestos-related liabilities to federal shipyard workers, and copyright issues affecting the music publishing industry. Mr. Rosdeitcher is active in the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, having served as a member of the Association's Executive Committee, and previously as Chairman of the Association's Council on International Affairs, and Chairman of the Association's Committee on International Human Rights and Committee on Professional and Judicial Ethics. While a member of the Committee on International Human Rights he led a human rights mission to Uganda and participated in human rights missions to Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan. Mr. Rosdeitcher is a director of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Chair of its Task Force on the Powers of Congress. He also taught courses in Civil Liberties at Brooklyn Law School and Professional Responsibility at Columbia Law School. He has published articles on antitrust and transnational discovery and is co-author of a report on human rights conditions in Uganda. Before joining Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in 1962, Mr. Rosdeitcher served as a lawyer in the Office of Legal Counsel at the United States Department of Justice and he took a leave of absence from Paul, Weiss to serve as an assistant to Commissioner Philip Elman of the Federal Trade Commission from 1965 to 1966. Mr. Rosdeitcher also served for several years as a partner in Paul, Weiss’ Washington office. Mr. Rosdeitcher received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1958 and his LL.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1961, where he served as articles editor of the Harvard Law Review.
