Mr. Ralph S. Terkowitz is a General Partner at ABS Capital Partners. He joined the firm in January 2004. Mr. Terkowitz manages investments in the media, communication, and technology sectors. His role includes identifying investment opportunities in the media, education, and communications space while leveraging his operational experience to help execute growth strategies across the firm’s portfolio. Mr. Terkowitz brings a combination of entrepreneurial spirit, operational know-how, and genuine enthusiasm to everything he does and is never slow to call upon his many industry contacts for the benefit of his companies. Previously, he served as the Chief Investment Officer and Chief Technology Officer of the Washington Post Company. Mr. Terkowitz has more than 30 years of operating, financial, and technical experience. During his tenure at The Washington Post Company, He worked with its six major divisions on all major technology and development operations and investments. He also led negotiation of the major vendor outsourcing agreements with AT&T and IBM, among others, while leading the effort to implement strategic sourcing and improving operating processes within the company. Since 1996, Mr. Terkowitz had primary responsibility for The Washington Post’s venture investment portfolio. Investments identified and executed by him include: Junglee, Personalogic, and Exchange.com. Under his direction, performance of the investments exceeded that of other corporate venture investors who manage for both strategic value and investment returns. At The Washington Post, Mr. Terkowitz served as a Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of WashingtonPost Newsweek Interactive, which under his leadership became known for its innovation and led the industry in developing new revenue models for electronic media. One of the products created by him, washingtonpost.com, continues to be among the most visited news and information sites on the Internet. Also for the Washington Post, Mr. Terkowitz was the Chief Executive Officer of Brass Ring, which under his direction received venture funding from both major venture capital and strategic investors. He serves as a Director of Alarm.com, since February 17, 200, Syncapse Corp., and also serves as the Chairman of the Boards of TRUSTe. Mr. Terkowitz is on Boards of eCornell, Vibrant Media, Inc., Alarm.com, Zoom Media Group, Inc. (Observer) and INVISION INC. Mr. Terkowitz serves as the Chairman of TRUSTe since January 2007. He serves on the Boards of American Public Education, Inc. Mr. Terkowitz is also an Observer on the Board of Course Advisor, Inc., Ignite Media Solutions, LLC, and Renew Data Systems. Mr. Terkowitz is a Director of TechMediaNetwork, Inc since September 26, 2011. In addition to this, Mr. Terkowitz is a Member of the Board of Advisors of the Indian CEO High Tech Council, the Cornell University Council, and the Newspaper Association of America’s Business Committee on Industry Development. He also served as a Director at eFashion Solutions LLC since July 2006. He was a Director of Control Point Solutions, Inc., Innovation Interactive, LLC, American Public University System, WhenU.com, Inc., and Tribe Networks, Inc., and a Member of the Board of Advisors of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University. He was the first External Director of Microstrategy and from 1996 to 2003 and he assisted the company through its initial public offering, meteoric growth, restatement, and recovery. He was a Director at Teachscape, Inc and Director at Dentsu Innovation Interactive. Mr. Terkowitz enjoys road biking both at home and abroad and is an avid gardener and clock collector. He holds a Masters degree in Chemical Physics from the University of California, Berkeley and graduated from Cornell University with an AB cum laude, in Chemistry and a distinction in all subjects.
