Daniel Bellus has been President and Chief Executive Officer of “Bellus Science and Innovation, International Consulting,” since 1997. Since 1980, Prof. Bellus has lectured as a Professor of Institute of Organic Chemistry, University of Fribourg. He is a recognised expert in the field of synthetic chemistry. He has an extensive industrial experience in life-science corporations, such as Ciba-Geigy. He serves as a Consultant to various life science companies. From1969 ... to 1996, Prof. Bellus served in positions of increasing responsibility with Ciba-Geigy Ltd., a Swiss pharmaceutical company in Basel. He served as Department Head of Central Research Laboratories from 1969 to 1981. Prof. Bellus served as Director of Central Research Laboratories, responsible for development of several emerging synthetic methodologies from 1981 to 1985. He served as Director of Research & Development of Agricultural Division of Ciba-Geigy worldwide from 1985 to 1991. Prof. Bellus served as Director of Corporate Research Units, responsible for the direction of Ciba-Geigy’s research programs and collaborative strategic alliances world-wide in areas of bioorganic chemistry and biomaterials from 1991 to 1996. Prof. Bellus served as Global Head of Additives Research of Ciba SC Inc., Basel until 2001. He serves as a Member of Scientific & Technical Advisory Board of Speedel Holding AG (Speedel Holding Ltd) and serves as Member of SAB/Business Advisory Board of Cropsolution Inc. He served as Outside Director of Millipore Corp. from 2000 to March 8, 2010. He serves as a Member of many scientific societies, including American Chemical Society, European Industrial Research Management Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Prof. Bellus serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the Foundation for Discovery-to-Business Transfer (Basel). He serves as Member of several Scientific Advisory Boards in Switzerland, USA, India and Czech Republic. He is an inventor on 48 patents and is the Author or Co-author of numerous scientific papers relating to the synthesis and use of compounds for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Prof. Bellus received numerous scientific honors including Gold Medal of the Slovak Chemical Society (1993), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (U.K.) (1996) and Foreign Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science 1999. He received his Master's Degree and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Slovak Technical University (Bratislava) in 1967. He holds an Honorary Ph.D. from Czech Technical University (Prague) in1997. Prof. Bellus studied as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich from 1967 to 1969.
