Dr. Robert L. Joss, Bob, Ph.D., is a Philip H. Knight Professor and Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California since September 1999. Dr. Joss served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Westpac Banking Corporation from February 1993 to February 1999 and was instrumental in refocusing the bank's strategy, modernizing and streamlining operations, and restructuring its culture. He held a variety of positions at Wells ... Fargo Bank, N.A. including as Vice Chairman from 1986 to 1993, where he held a succession of posts as a Senior Vice President, Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman and was responsible for a variety of areas that included strategy, economics, international, private banking, investment management, and government relations. From 1971 to 1993, he held a variety of posts at Wells Fargo Bank. Dr. Joss has extensive experience in finance and banking, and is a recognized industry leader in management effectiveness and leadership. Dr. Joss holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Washington and an M.B.A. in 1967 and a Ph.D. in Finance in 1970, writing his dissertation on the market for commercial paper, both from Stanford University.
