Dr. Fernandez currently serves as the Chairman of Careplus Health Plans Inc. He serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc. since October 1995; MEDNAX, Inc.; Healthcare Atlantic, Inc.; MBF Healthcare Acquisition Corp. since June 2006; Hospitalists of America; Navarro Discount Pharmacies; FDC/Nutri-Force Vitamins; and Medical Specialties Distributors. He previously served as the Chairman of Healthcare Atlantic Inc. Dr. Fernandez's community service endeavors include serving on the Health Care Policy Advisory Council of Harvard Medical School, having served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Miami-Dade County; the University of Miami; and the University of Miami/Sylvester Cancer Center. He formerly served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation and also served in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1975.
