He joined the Vanderbilt Medical School faculty in 1985 as a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Nephrology and in 1997 became Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs. In 1978, after two years of active duty in the United States Army as the Chief of Nephrology at the United States Army Surgical Research Center of Brooke Army Medical Center, he joined the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he served till 1985. He has been both a formal and informal Advisor to several venture and private equity funds. He serves as the Chairman of CeloNova Biosciences, Inc, Informatics Corporation of America, Inc. He serves as Chairman of Cardiovascular Care Group, Inc at Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital, LLC and MedCare Investment Funds. Dr. Jacobson serves as the Chairman of IMED. Dr. Jacobson received an M.D. degree from the University of Illinois’ Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in 1972, completed an internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and specialty training in Nephrology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. Dr. Jacobson received a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois.
