Background

Dr. Graham T. Allison, Jr. is the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government at Harvard University. Previously, Dr. Allison served as Special Advisor to the Secretary of Defense under President Reagan and as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy and Plans under President Clinton, where he coordinated DOD strategy and policy towards Russia, Ukraine, and the other states of the former Soviet Union. As Dean from 1977 to 1989, he built Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of ... Government. Dr. Allison serves on the Board of Taubman Centers, Inc. He also serves as the Member of Board of Trustees at Natixis Funds. Dr. Allison is also Member of Contract Review and Governance Committee at Natixis Funds. He serves as the Director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Dr. Allison also serves as a Member of Advisory Board at Cue Ball Venture Strategies, The Cue Ball Group, LLC, and Esplanade Capital. Mr. Allison has been a Director of Taubman Centers Inc. since 1996 and serves as Member of Executive and Audit Committees. Dr. Allison is also a Director of the Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. He has served as a Director of the Getty Oil Company and Belco Oil and Gas, and as a Member of the Advisory Boards of Chase Bank, Hydro-Quebec, and the International Energy Corporation. Dr. Allison's publications include Essence of Decision, Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis (1971), Realizing Human Rights, Moving from Inspiration to Impact (2000), and Avoiding Nuclear Anarchy, Containing the Threat of Loose Russian Nuclear Weapons and Fissile Material (1996). He has the sole distinction of having twice been awarded the Department of Defense's highest civilian award, the Distinguished Public Service Medal, first by Secretary Cap Weinberger and second by Secretary Bill Perry. Dr. Allison has written extensively on the subjects of human rights and nuclear warfare, his publications include: Essence of Decision: Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis (1971), Avoiding Nuclear Anarchy: Containing the Threat of Loose Russian Nuclear Weapons and Fissile Material (1996), Realizing Human Rights: From Inspiration to Impact (2000), and Nuclear Terrorism: The Ultimate Preventable Catastrophe (2004). He serves as a Director of Joule Biotechnologies. He has received honorary doctorates from Davidson College, Uppsala University (Sweden), and the University of North Carolina. Dr. Allison earned a B.A. Magna Cum Laude in History from Harvard College, a B.A. and M.A. first class honors in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University.
