Mr. Peter C. Wendell serves as Managing Director at Sierra Ventures. Mr. Wendell founded the Sierra Ventures in 1982 and focuses on investments in the software and technology-enabled services sectors. He has also been instrumental in applying his 25 years of United States venture capital experience to the firm’s entry into the new frontiers of India and China. He is a Special Advisor at Gobi Partners. In 1975, Mr. Wendell was employed at McKinsey & Company. From 1972 ... to 1981, he was an Executive Manager and served in a variety of marketing and sales positions at IBM. Currently, he is also serving as the Chairman of Astra Business Services. He has been a Director of Merck & Co Inc. since September 23, 2003. Mr. Wendell is a Member of the Board of Directors of DBS Communications, KnowledgeNet.com, PGI, On Assignment, and NovaMed. Previously, he served as a Director at Centex Telemanagement Inc., Teradata, iMarket Inc. and RocketCash.com. He also served as a Director at Fatbrain.com Inc. from September 1996. He serves as the Chairman of Princeton University Investment Co. He served as a Charter Trustee of Princeton University until June 2011. Mr. Wendell has been a part of the Stanford University faculty since 1991 where he teaches “Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital” and is a Director of Harvard Business School, Associate Board. In July 2001, he was honored by Forbes magazine as one of the 100 best technology venture investors in the United States and in January 2002, he was one of 15 venture capitalists named on Upside magazine's Elite 100 list of influential United States leaders in technology, finance, and business. In recognition of his work at Stanford and Princeton, Mr. Wendell was awarded the National Venture Capital Association’s American Spirit Award for applying his business skills in a manner that has created outstanding contributions to our broader society. He holds an M.B.A., with distinction, from Harvard Business School in 1976, and received a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Princeton University in 1972.
