Background

Dr. Roy M. Goodman has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Development Corporation since January 2002. Dr. Goodman is responsible for implementing the city-state policy of strong support of the United Nations. He has been Director of the United Nations Development Corporation since January 2002. He serves as Emeritus Trustee at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Dr. Goodman is also a member of the Mayor’s Cabinet. In his ... 30-year service from 1969-2002, Dr. Goodman was elected 17 times as State Senator representing the East Side of Manhattan. He rose to the rank of Deputy Majority Leader for Policy and served as Chairman of Senate Committee of Taxation and Investigations, and as Chairman of the Committee on Arts and Cultural Affairs. More than 1200 of the Bills he sponsored became laws. He was the leading Arts advocate with legislation arranging for many initiatives in cultural support. From 1989 to 1996, he was a member of the National Endowment for the Arts Council confirmed by the U.S. Senate. In 1996, he was named Ambassador for the Arts by the National Endowment for the Arts “in recognition of his unwavering support of the Arts.” From 1985 to 1989, he served as a Commissioner of the National Commission of Fine Arts, by appointment of President Reagan. In 1977, Dr. Goodman was the Republican Candidate for Mayor of New York City and from January 1966 to April 1968, he was Finance Commissioner and Treasurer of the City of New York and served in the Mayor’s Super Cabinet. He was elected 6 times as a Delegate to the National Republican Convention and served as New York County Chairman for 20 years. He serves as Trustee of Carnegie Hall Corporation. He serves on the Boards of the Temple Emanu-El, and the Citizens Committee for New York City. He is a Senior Security Analyst in the N.Y. Society of Security Analysts. He is also Trustee at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Goodman received Honorary Doctoral Degrees from Baruch College of the City University of New York and Pratt Institute. He earned a Master’s Degree with Distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He is a graduate with honors of Harvard College.
