Background

Dr. Fred H. Gage is a Co-founder of Brain Cells Inc. Dr. Gage is a Professor in the laboratory of genetics at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. Dr. Gage’s work concentrates on the adult central nervous system and unexpected plasticity and adaptability to environmental stimulation that remains throughout the life of all mammals. In addition, his studies focus on the cellular, molecular, as well as environmental influences that regulate ... neurogenesis in the adult brain and spinal cord. Dr. Gage concentrates his research on methods of correcting neurodegenerative diseases and nervous system injury. The focus of the research in his laboratory is on development of strategies to induce recovery of function following central nervous system (CNS) damage. Prior to joining Salk, Dr. Gage was a Professor at the Department of Neurosciences, University of California, San Diego, California. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Ceregene Inc., Stemcells Inc., and Bay City Capital LLC. He serves as a Director and Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Brain Cells Inc. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the 1993 Charles A. Dana Award for Pioneering Achievements in Health and Education, the Christopher Reeve Medal, the Decade of the Brain Medal, and the Max-Planck Research Prize. Dr. Gage is the President-elect of the Society for Neurosciences. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine, and a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Gage received is undergraduate degree from the University of Florida. He received both his M.S. and his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in the field of Neuroscience.
