Dr. Franson served as a Vice President of Clinical Research and United States Regulatory Affairs and Policy of Eli Lilly & Co. from 1997 to 2003. He served as an Acting Senior Vice President of Regulatory Strategy at InteKrin Therapeutics, Inc. Dr. Franson served as the Director of the Chemotherapy Division of Lilly Research Laboratories, a division of Eli Lilly since 1988, Group Medical Director for Europe, located at Erl Wood, England, since 1991, the Executive Director of Health Economics Research and Decision Sciences since 1993 and also served as its Executive Director of North America Regulatory Affairs since 1994. Prior to joining Lilly in 1986 as an Associate Clinical Investigator. Dr. Franson is a Member of the Board of Trustees for Xavier University of Louisiana. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for FDA Advertising & Promotional Manual. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Villages of Indiana and the Indiana State Museum Foundation and the National Patient Safety Foundation. Dr. Franson served as a Director of Myrexis, Inc. from September 10, 2009 to January 23, 2013. Dr. Franson serves as Chair of the Clinical Steering Committee and a Member of the Regulatory Affairs Coordinating Committee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers' Association (PHRMA) and represented the industry on the European working party for antimicrobial trial guidelines and the FDA/IDSA antimicrobial trial guidelines revision project. He served as Chair of the Educational Master Plan Committee and on the Superintendent's Advisory Council for the Eagle-Union School Corporation (Zionsville, Ind.,) and on a long-range planning committee for the Drake University College of Pharmacy. He was a Co-Chair of the PHRMA/FDA/BIO Prescription Drug User Fee Act-3 steering committee. Dr. Franson was a member of the AAMC-PhRMA Clinical Trials Forum and was a Member of the Regulatory Advisory Board for the Centre for Medicines Research International from 2003 to 2008. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Services. He was a full-time Faculty Member at the Medical College of Wisconsin and NIH-funded Investigator. Dr. Franson has testified on behalf of the pharmaceutical industry before United States Congressional Committees about regulatory issues, including the Prescription Drug User Fee Act and pediatric exclusivity. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and a Member of the American Federation for Clinical Research and the American Society for Microbiology. Dr. Franson has authored more than 50 articles in the fields of infectious disease, epidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, and antibiotic utilization. He served his Internship and Residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Franson received an M.D. in 1978 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Drake University in 1974.
