Background

Mr. Jonathan Lindsey is a Co-founder and serves as a Managing Partner of the New York office of Major, Lindsey & Africa (formerly, Major, Hagen & Africa). Over the past sixteen years, Mr. Lindsey has placed scores of partners and practice groups at some of the world's top law firms (ranging from global powerhouses such as Paul Weiss, Latham & Watkins, Gibson Dunn, and Freshfields to highly profitable three-partner boutiques), conducted successful searches for General ... Counsels at corporations around the U.S., and assisted firms in merger and branch office acquisitions. Mr. Lindsey is the former Co-Chair of the Partner Practice Group. He serves as a Director of Major, Lindsey & Africa. He also serves as a Trustee/Director of Citizens Budget Commission. Mr. Lindsey is a Member of the Board of Editors of The Law Firm Partnership and Benefits Report and serves on the Board of Trustees of The Spence School. He has also served as a Trustee of the Citizens Budget Commission of the City of New York, on the Small Law Firm Management Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, as an adjunct professor at New York Law School, and as a member of the Executive Committee of Trinity School's Alumni Society. He is a co-author of ''Managing People In Today's Law Firm'' (Quorum Books, 1995), ''Lateral Partner Satisfaction: Who Has It, How They Got It, and How to Enhance It'' (New York, 1997), and numerous articles for The American Lawyer, Corporate Counsel Magazine, The National Law Journal, New York Law Journal, International Financial Law Review, and others. He has been invited to speak by the American Management Association, the Federal Bar Council, the Association of General Counsel, and others, on topics ranging from innovative law firm retention and compensation policies to best practices in staffing the global law department. After clerking for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, he practiced with Debevoise & Plimpton, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, and as Deputy Counsel to the Department of City Planning and Counsel to the Chairman of New York City's Planning Commission. He earned his BA with honors from Wesleyan University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was Managing Editor of the Columbia Law Review and a three-time Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He and his wife Alex have been closely involved with the St. Aloysius School in Central Harlem since 1995.
