Among other awards and honors, he has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including the 1997 Sarstedt International prize from the German Society of Clinical Chemistry, the 1998 Alton Ochsner Award Relating Smoking and Health by the American College of Chest Physicians and the 2004 Hinda and Richard Rosenthal Award from the American Association of Cancer Research. He was named Americas Best Oncologist by magazine in 2001. In August 2001, Time Magazine named Dr. Sidransky as one of America's ten best scientists for his work on microsatellite cancer diagnostics. He holds a BS and BA from Brandeis University and a MD from Baylor College of Medicine.
