Dr. Borchardt is also the Editor of 10 books, the Series Editor of "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" and "Biotechnology: Pharmaceutical Aspects. Dr. Borchardt has received numerous awards and honors for his teaching and research accomplishments including: Established Investigatorship from the American Heart Association from 1974 to 1979; Sato Memorial International Award from the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan in 1981; Mortar Board Outstanding Educator Award in 1980, Dolph C. Simons, Sr. Research Award in the Biomedical Sciences in 1983, the Louise Byrd Graduate Educator Award in 1997; the Chancellors Club Career Teaching Award in 2005 from The University of Kansas; the 2000 Millennial Pharmaceutical Scientist Award and the 2003 Takeru Higuchi Research Prize from the American Pharmaceutical Association. His awards include: Fellow in 1988, Research Achievement Awards in Biotechnology in 1993 and Medicinal Chemistry in 1994, and Distinguished Pharmaceutical Scientist Award in 1997 from the AAPS; Takeru and Aya Higuchi Memorial Lectureship Award from the APSTJ-Japan in 1993; Paul Dawson Biotechnology Award in 1997 and Volwiler Research Achievement Award in 1998 from the AACP; Hoest-Madsen Medal in 1999 from FIP; Smissman-Bristol-Myers Squibb Award from the ACS in 2003; and the PolyPops Foundation Award in 2007. He has been a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists since 1988 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science since 1995. From 1969 to 1971, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NIH. He holds Ph.D. degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Kansas-Lawrence in 1970. He holds his undergraduate education, B.S. in Pharmacy, 1967 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also has received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Copenhagen, Denmark in 2002, Katholieke University, Belgium in 2004 and Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden in 2006.
