Background

Dr. Gary L. Stiles, M.D., has been Senior Vice President of Research & Development at Purdue Products L.P and Purdue Pharma L.P. since 2010. Dr. Stiles is responsible for the planning, direction, and management of all R&D initiatives, programs, facilities, and operations, including Discovery Research, Non-Clinical Development, Formulation Development, Clinical Development, and Regulatory Affairs/Drug Safety. He joined Purdue in 2010. He served as an Executive Vice President ... and Chief Medical Officer of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Wyeth, LLC since January 26, 2004, where he was responsible for all clinical development programs - from Phase I through Phase IV - as well as medical support for marketed products. He joined Wyeth from the Duke University Health System, where he served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer since 1999. At Duke, he assumed progressive leadership roles in its prestigious Department of Medicine, serving as Chief of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiology Training Program and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Stiles created and ran PrimaHealth, an Independent Physician Association of more than 1,000 physicians including both community and Duke physicians. He also served as Medical Director for the Duke University Health System Network, where he was responsible for the recruitment and implementation of the external physician network. He serves as a Director of Cardioxyl Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He is the Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Cardiology Duke University. He joined the faculty of Duke in 1981. Dr. Stiles has a BS degree in Chemistry from St. Lawrence University and an MD degree from Vanderbilt University. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt and fellowship training in Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center.
