Dr. K. Peter Hirth, Ph.D. co-founded Plexxikon, Inc. in December 2000 and serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Plexxikon, Dr. Hirth served as the President of SUGEN, Inc. until 1999 and joined it in March 1992 as Executive Vice President. At Sugen, he helped build it from its inception and advanced several kinase inhibitors through clinical trials for the treatment of oncology. Before joining SUGEN, he served as Vice President in Research and ... Head of Immunopharmacology, Allergy, Virology and Microbiology at Boehringer Mannheim GmbH, Germany from August 1984 to December 1991 and was responsible for the R&D activities in immunopharmacology, virology, and allergy. At Boehringer, among other responsibilities, he successfully led its Erythropoietin Program. Dr. Hirth served as Project-Leader in the development of erythropoietin, licensed from the Genetics Institute. Prior to joining Boehringer Mannheim, Dr. Hirth served two years as a Research Scientist at Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry near Munich. He has 25 years of biotechnology and pharmaceutical discovery and development experience. He has been Director of Kolltan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since August 2009. He serves as a Director at Xantos Biomedicine, Alios BioPharma, Inc., Xantos AG, Plexxikon, Inc. and Wilex AG. He served as a Director of ForteBio, Inc., since June 15, 2006. Dr. Hirth received his M.Sc. and his Ph.D. degree in molecular genetics from Heidelberg University, Germany and completed his post-doctoral work at the University of California, San Diego.
