Background

Mr. Brian A. Bethune has been the Chief Canadian Economist at IHS Global Insight, Inc. since March 2010. Mr. Bethune is responsible for leading the Canadian forecasts and analyses, utilizing his extensive expertise in Canadian and U.S. financial markets and industries. He also serves as chief financial economist of the North American macroeconomic analysis group. His areas of expertise include the Federal Reserve; monetary policy, credit markets, the flow of funds, and ... the financial system; equity, bond, and currency markets; and government policies. He has more than 20 years of experience in industry and commercial banking, including senior positions at the World Trade Organization. He held a number of top-level positions, including that of Senior Financial Economist for the Bank of Montreal Financial Group, and Head of the Business Economics group at the world headquarters of Caterpillar Inc. He has also worked for Dofasco Inc. (now ArcelorMittall Dofasco), and the American Can Company of Canada (now Ball Corp. of Canada). Mr. Bethune holds a PhD in international economics from the Graduate Institute at the University of Geneva, Switzerland as well as a Master of Arts in Economics from McMaster University, Canada.
