Baylor Health Care System Inc. and Scott and White Hospital and Clinic Signs Agreement of Intent to Join Forces

The boards of Baylor Health Care System Inc. and Scott and White Hospital and Clinic have approved the signing of an agreement of intent to combine the strengths of their two health systems to create a $7.7 billion organization with the vision and resources to offer its patients continued exceptional care while creating a model system for an industry undergoing fundamental transformation. The alliance reflects a vision by leaders from two of the nation's preeminent health systems to create a new health system engineered to meet the demands of health care reform, the changing needs of patients and payers and the extraordinary advances in clinical care. The new system, named Baylor Scott & White Health, will include the organizations' combined 42 hospitals, more than 350 patient care sites, more than 4,000 active physicians, 34,000 employees and the Scott & White Health Plan. It would be the not-for-profit health system in Texas, United States. It would be governed by a single board with equal representation from both founding members.
Aetna Inc. Expands Medicare Advantage Network with Baylor Health Care System Inc

Aetna Inc. announced that Baylor Health Care System Inc. has joined its network of participating hospitals for Medicare Advantage members. Beginning November 1, members of Aetna Medicare Advantage plans can receive care at in-network rates from all Baylor facilities, as well as from Baylor Quality Alliance physicians and HealthTexas Provider Network physicians. Baylor has been part of Aetna's commercial network for more than 20 years. Aetna and Baylor Quality Alliance (BQA), Baylor's accountable care organization, also signed an agreement to provide coordinated care for Medicare Advantage members who receive care from BQA or HealthTexas Provider Network physicians. Under this agreement, Aetna nurse case managers will work closely with the physicians on quality and care management for eligible Aetna Medicare Advantage members. Aetna and BQA also will work together to improve adherence to best practices and treatment plans and BQA physicians will be rewarded for quality and efficiency improvements.
