American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is a professional organization for all Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). The association provides four services to the accounting community, advocacy of CPAs before governments, regulatory bodies, and other organizations; certification and licensing; communications; recruiting and education; and standards and performance. It also publishes newsletters and journals on CPAs. The American Institute of CPAs Announces Board Appointments for AICPA Center for Plain English Accounting

The American Institute of CPAs has named a new technical director for the AICPA Center for Plain English Accounting (CPEA), a resource hub for local and regional CPA firms seeking detailed, clearly explained guidance on complex accounting and assurance issues. Thomas J. Groskopf, a nationally known authority on those topics, succeeds the late Dr. Tom Ratcliffe, founder of Plain-English Accounting, LLC, an advisory service acquired by the AICPA last fall and expanded into the CPEA. Firms must be members of the AICPA's Private Companies Practice Session to join the center. Groskopf continues as a CPA with Barnes, Dennig & Co. He is a member of the Private Company Council, which works with the Financial Accounting Standards Board to determine if and how U.S. GAAP should be adapted for private companies. Groskopf has also served on the AICPA's PCPS Technical Issues Committee, including one year as chair of its accounting subcommittee. Heading the AICPA staff is Robert Durak, CPA, CGMA, the AICPA's director of private company financial reporting.

Paul Farmer, FAICP, Chief Executive Officer of the American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, announced his plan to leave his position next July. A search committee, headed by APA President William Anderson, FAICP, will begin the process of finding a successor next month. As CEO of APA and AICP since early 2001, Farmer and the APA team have been responsible for: Expanding educational offerings: the National Planning Conference; in-depth Planners Training Service workshops; Institutes for Directors, Managers, and Emerging Professionals; and webcasts, podcasts, streaming media, and e-books.

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has announced the hiring of Rachel Dresen as a director on its Washington-based congressional and political affairs team. Dresen joins the Institute from the staff of U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.). From 2011 to 2013, she was Legislative Director for Representative Ben Quayle (R-Ariz.).
