Two investment firms are in discussions with Republic Airways Holdings Inc. to acquire Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. in a deal that could be valued at more than $1 billion including debt, said people close to the negotiations. The investment firms include Indigo Partners LLC and Anchorage Capital Group, L.L.C., the people added. The discussions are at an early stage and could fall also apart and also a handful of possible suitors have expressed interest in Frontier, with Indigo and Anchorage emerging as the most serious potential bidders, people added. A buyer would pay between $20 million and $50 million to purchase Frontier from Republic and then recapitalize the airline with an additional $100 million to $150 million, it would also assume hundreds of millions of dollars of liabilities, the people said. Republic disclosed in April 2012 that it had hired bankers at Barclays Capital to seek buyers for Frontier.

Indigo Partners LLC is seeking to invest in India and will be looking for a local partner. William Franke, Managing Partner of Indigo Partners, said, "In every market we are investing, we will be having a local partner."
