SAS Institute Inc. Key Developments

ICMA and SAS Launch Performance Analytics Tools to Help Local Governments Harness the Power of Big Data

ICMA unveiled ICMA Insights(TM), a new performance management and analytics solution for local governments. Developed by ICMA and its members in partnership with SAS, ICMA Insights helps communities synthesize data they collect across the services they provide--such as police, fire, trash collection, building permits--to track performance metrics and drive improvements in service delivery. ICMA Insights(TM) also offers communities the ability to compare their performance data to other participating jurisdictions using a core set of well-defined measures. Five levels of service are offered to cover a range of community and budget sizes. The tier services range from basic summary statistics and integrated reporting to more advanced customizable graphs, scorecards, dashboards, and performance forecasting. Multiple local user licenses with additional users based on population are also available. The service includes training modules; a private online network for peer-to-peer discussion; and ICMA-generated research, case studies, and white papers. Communities can conveniently report, benchmark, and analyze performance using the latest technology employed by Fortune 500 companies but at a fraction of the cost, and results can easily be shared with citizens.

Schenker AG Claims Damages from Air France, KLM, Martinair, Cargolux, Qantas, SAS and All Nippon Airways

Schenker AG has filed a complaint in New York federal court claiming damages from Air France, KLM, Martinair, Cargolux, Qantas, SAS and All Nippon Airways. Schenker AG alleges that the defendants illegally conspired to fix fuel and security surcharges for airfreight shipments from, to and within the United States beginning in 1999 until at least 2006. The exact amount of the damages suffered by Schenker AG and its affiliated companies has not yet been determined. In the proceedings initiated by the US Department of Justice, all the defendants named in the Schenker AG complaint entered into guilty pleas and accepted significant penalties. Also in the United States, a number of air cargo carriers have entered into settlement agreements both with class action plaintiffs and individual claimants in order to avoid protracted civil lawsuits. Schenker AG opted out of the settlement agreements entered into by the named defendants in connection with the class action lawsuit.
