Caixa Reportedly Selling Consumer Distressed Loans

Caixa Econômica Federal is considering selling a pool of distressed consumer loans to investors, the first step in a broader plan to get rid of bad loans and free up capital, a source said. About BRL 3 billion worth of defaulted loans could be sold to funds that specialize in dealing with distressed assets, the source said.

Sources Say Caixa Econômica And BTG Considering Possible Deal

Caixa Econômica Federal is considering becoming a partner in BTG Pactual Group (BOVESPA:BBTG11)'s corporate insurance business, two sources with knowledge of the situation said. Caixa Econômica is considering a partnership in investment bank BTG’s corporate insurance business. One source stated that Caixa is studying how to team up with BTG Pactual in the high risk and corporate insurance business, although no terms have been decided. Two sources, seeking anonymity, further mentioned that BTG is negotiating the purchase of the insurance unit of Banco Pan S.A. (BOVESPA:BPNM4) (Banco PanAmericano SA), a consumer lender in which both BTG and Caixa are partners. PanAmericano could use proceeds from the sale, which could fetch as much as BRL 600 million, to return to profitability following its emergence from bankruptcy in recent years. BTG Pactual, Caixa considering Brazil insurance deal, sources say. Sources added that BTG Pactual and Caixa are also finalizing the terms of a BRL 1.5 billion real capital injection into PanAmericano. Both the deals are expected to "go hand in hand" and could be announced together, the first source added.
