The service provides routine and urgent care healthcare appointments by phone and webcam to patients of hospital systems and primary care clinics around the country. Carena developed the service to help provider groups improve access, increase provider capacity, differentiate in an increasingly competitive healthcare marketplace, and serve the needs of a new breed of tech-savvy consumer healthcare shoppers. The service is modeled after a successful pilot program between Carena and Franciscan Medical Clinic facilities in the Tacoma metro area. When a clinic is closed, patients are assisted by Carena's 24/7 call center, where they are given the option of having their health concern addressed immediately via a phone or webcam virtual visit with a Carena physician or nurse practitioner. Carena's 24/7 Urgent Care services are integrated with the health system, so patients encounter a seamless experience. After the visit they are referred back to their primary care provider for follow-up. Chart notes are entered into the system and shared with the primary care provider to ensure continuity of care, and new patients are escalated to the appropriate clinic to expedite making an appointment with a physician.

Carena, Inc. Launches Public Beta Version of CareSimple

Carena, Inc. launched a public beta version of CareSimple, a service that provides affordable 24/7 access to doctors and nurse practitioners via phone and webcam. With CareSimple, Carena is making it available for the first time to individuals and families in Washington and California. CareSimple beta has been available to friends and family since October of 2012. Introductory pricing during the public beta test period is just $10 per visit. Available at, CareSimple is available 24/7 to help people when they aren't sure what to do about a health concern or don't know where to turn. CareSimple fills the gap when a visit to a primary care provider isn't available or it doesn't make sense to go in, such as nights, weekends or holidays. Typically patients speak with a provider within 15 minutes of requesting a visit. And, in most cases, people can get resolution and avoid a costly trip to the ER -- 98% of patients report they had their issue resolved with Carena and more than 50% state they avoided a trip to the ER. CareSimple provides peace of mind and quality care, whenever a patient needs it most. The doctors and nurse practitioners that deliver care are employed by CareSimple's medical group and live and work in the Seattle area. Each provider is board-certified and trained specifically to diagnose and deliver care using phones and webcams. If necessary, CareSimple's providers can conduct house calls as well. They provide personalised treatment plans and prescriptions, if appropriate. And, they deliver a visit summary to a patient's regular provider, to ensure continuity of care.
