The Weather Channel Interactive, Inc. announced that Neil Katz is joining the company as vice president/editor-in-chief of The Weather Channel digital properties, which include weather.com and its category leading lineup of smartphone and tablet applications. In this newly created role, Katz will own editorial direction of the properties overseeing digital video content, news, lifestyle and sponsored advertising content, supervising all content staff as well as content acquisition and analytics. Katz joins TWC from The Huffington Post, where as executive news editor he was a part of the senior team that oversees editorial for The Huffington Post. He led the AOL.com editorial team and oversaw The Huffington Post business, tech and crime verticals and the production of several new video series. Previously, Katz spent several years at CBSnews.com as an executive editor and was the founding editor of the CBS News Crimesider site. In addition, he was a field producer for "48 Hours" and a freelance video journalist for The New York Times, PBS, and others. Prior to his journalism career, Katz was an interactive media art director, producer and entrepreneur. He has art directed online campaigns for clients including Intel, Cuervo, Johnson & Johnson and the American Lung Association. In addition, he founded Merging Media, a digital design firm that produced sites for Nickelodeon, Hasbro, NYU, and others.
The Weather Channel Companies announced a new partnership that will allow Jumptap, to serve National Election advertising across The Weather Channel’s mobile and tablet platforms, which reach more than 30 million monthly users. The partnership combines TWCC’s massive scale and unparalleled local reach with Jumptap’s targeting and data capabilities to provide political advertisers with scalable options to reach their target audiences and influence voters. The Weather Channel mobile users must enter ZIP code information to access accurate local weather forecast, news and information for their area; therefore, the site is inherently conducive to delivering highly targeted local political campaign messages that feel organic to the user. Jumptap’s unique targeting capabilities and broad understanding of the burgeoning mobile audience add relevance and context to political mobile campaigns. This partnership with The Weather Channel Companies expands its reach and provides the most relevant ad solutions for political mobile advertisers.
The Weather Channel Interactive, Inc. announced the appointment of Bryson Koehler as Chief Information Officer (CIO). In this role, he will be responsible for setting the strategic vision, financial planning, technical operations, direction and execution of strategic technology initiatives for TWCC. Koehler joins the company from Exigen Capital, a private equity firm where he was an Operating Partner overseeing the firm's investments and operations in the Travel & Entertainment sectors. Koehler will be based in Atlanta at the company's corporate headquarters and report to Chris Walters, Chief Operating Officer of TWCC. Prior to his time at Exigen Capital, Koehler spent 10 years at InterContinental Hotels Group as the senior vice president of global revenue and guest technology. His team was responsible for overall delivery of IHG's customer facing systems on a global basis including central reservations system, all web sites, contact centers and next generation property management systems. Koehler also served as vice president and director of global distribution technology earlier in his tenure at IHG. Koehler previously served as director of global technology sales for Vicorp.com and held various technical leadership positions for USWeb, where he managed the technical relationships for a broad array of clients. He began his technology career at Arthur Anderson as a technology strategy consultant, where he helped implement knowledge-sharing platforms on emerging Internet technologies for a diverse group of clients.
