Modea Corporation laid off nearly one-third of its employees in response to the loss of a major customer. The company let go 25 of its 79 workers, effective February 23, 2012. The terminations, which affected full- and part-time workers, were a response to the company's loss of Verizon Wireless as a client. The company remains committed to a previously announced plan to a build a headquarters at the site of the old Blacksburg Middle School. The future headquarters project, with an estimated price tag of $10 million, will consolidate those operations at one address in a planned mixed-use project. When announced in March 2011, the Modea office building was scheduled for completion in 2013 or 2014. At the time it would hire 200 additional workers.
