THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines plans to undertake a PHP 4.86 billion transmission project in Pasay City to help meet growing demand in Metro Manila. The Energy Regulatory Commission announced that NGCP sought its approval to implement the Pasay 230-kilovolt (kV) substation project. The proposed substation - to be located in the reclamation area in Pasay City - will be connected to the Las Pinas substation through an 8.1-kilometer, 230-kV transmission line. Designed as an indoor substation, it will have five associated breakers. The overhead transmission line will run along the coastal area of Manila Bay. The project estimated to cost PHP 4,860,329,971.40 is planned to start this year and be completed in 2018. At the same time, the project will also relieve the heavy load of Las Pinas substation. The Las Pinas substation, along with six other similar facilities, serves load requirements of residents in Metro Manila.

The National Grid Corporation of The Philippines plans to invest PHP 1.281 billion to improve transmission services and accommodate a new power project in the Visayas. In a notice dated April 28, the Energy Regulatory Commission said the grid operator asked for authorization to implement the Eastern Panay transmission line project. The project, the regulator said, entails development of the 50- megavolt-ampere Concepcion substation and expansion of the existing Barotac Viejo substation. NGCP also intends to put up two new transmission lines with 138- kilovolt and 69-kV capacities. The project, estimated to cost PHP 1.281 billion, is targeted to be energized by the end of a 34-month construction period. The first 135-MW unit of the plant is scheduled to start commercial operations late this year, while the second 135-MW unit will be completed by 2016.
