Wolfson Microelectronics plc Joins Open Invention Network as a Licensee

Open Invention Network (OIN) announced that Wolfson Microelectronics plc has joined OIN as a licensee. In doing so, Wolfson, is demonstrating its commitment to intellectual property (IP) non-aggression in Linux. Linux is a core technology within a number of Wolfson parts including ALSA system-on-a-chip (ASoC), a subsystem that provides a framework for audio in embedded systems running Linux and TinyHAL, which supports Android's audio Hardware Abstract Layer. Additionally, Wolfson has created a number of key audio, touchscreen and power management drivers that are part of the Linux Kernel.

Open Invention Network Extends Linux-Protective Network to Cover OpenStack Technologies

Open Invention Network (OIN) announced that it has extended its Linux-protective network to include OpenStack and other cloud computing technologies. Specifically, it significantly expanded the technologies covered by OIN's network of royalty-free cross-licenses and by its defensive patent portfolio. This expansion will beneficially broaden OIN's patent cross-license coverage, further encourage OIN's over 700 community members to share Linux-related technologies and offer an incentive for Linux developers, distributors, sellers, resellers and end-users to continue to collaborate around and invest in Linux. Linux software has become so pervasive that it now powers many every day activities, from making a phone call or credit card purchase to using cloud-based services such as Facebook and Twitter.

Open Invention Network, LLC Adds 3 New Linux System Software Packages
