Arla Foods Announces DKK 2.2 Billion Investment Plan for 2014
Feb 10 14
Arla Foods has announced that it will invest DKK 2.2 billion in 10 of its dairy sites in 2014. The money will go into new and ongoing dairy expansions and into projects that will help make Arla's production even more climate-friendly. In total, DKK 750 million will be invested in production for Arla's strategic growth markets outside the EU - Russia, China, the Middle East & Africa - which is a third of 2014's production investments. Arla's production investments in 2014 make up nearly 3% of the expected turnover of approximately DKK 79 billion, which is also the ambition in Arla's Strategy 2017. The goal is to increase profitability in Arla's business and thereby create a higher earning for Arla's cooperative members long-term. The new site will produce value-added lactose ingredients based on whey from Arla's nearby cheese production. These ingredients will be used for child nutrition products and other categories and sold to the food industry globally by Arla's subsidiary Arla Foods Ingredients. Other examples of significant investments in 2014 are: DKK 126 million for Pronsfeld dairy in Germany, which exports products such as UHT-milk and milk powder to the markets in Asia and Africa; DKK 95 million for Arla's dairy in Upahl, Germany where the production of quark is to be expanded; DKK 81 million for Arla's dairy in Oswestry in the UK, where a new cheese packaging facility will be constructed; DKK 66 million for the dairy Holstebro Flødeost in Denmark, where a new packaging line for BUKO cream cheese is to be built; and DKK 42 million for Falkenberg dairy in Sweden, which will re-open as a cottage cheese dairy (in total this investment will amount to DKK 148 million between now and 2016).
