The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced the appointment of Erin Hart as head of the new communications department. Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Announces Board Changes

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced the appointment of Stanford University President John Hennessy to its board of trustees. At the same time Ed Penhoet, who also formerly served as the Foundation's president, is stepping down from his role on the board. Hennessy became Stanford University's 10(th) president in October 2000. He joined Stanford's faculty in 1977 and held posts including the inaugural Willard R. and Inez Kerr Bell Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, director of the Computer Systems Laboratory, dean of the School of Engineering and provost. A pioneer in computer architecture, Hennessy is the recipient of numerous awards including a 2005 Founders Award from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the 2012 IEEE Medal of Honor. Penhoet, who is stepping down from the board, will continue to serve on the Foundation's Investment Management Committee and Science Advisory Board. As the first chief program officer for the Foundation's Science Program, a former president and trustee, Penhoet has shaped many facets of the Foundation's programs and approach to grantmaking.

Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Appoints Nancy J. Koch as General Counsel and Secretary

The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced the appointment of Nancy J. Koch as general counsel and secretary, reporting directly to the Foundation's president, Steve McCormick. The role will be expanding to include new responsibilities refining the Foundation's approach to advocacy, helping program staff design external networks for great impact, and forging partnerships with other multi-stakeholder foundations, advocacy groups and representatives at every level of government. Koch will assume the new position on August 13. Since 2007, Koch has worked in legal and advocacy consulting for a variety of entities concerning strategy, collaboration management, licensing, litigation and intellectual property issues, including recent work representing the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
