DataDirect Networks Announces Federated Tiering Capability for Both DDN Lustre and GPFS Environments
Jun 23 14
DataDirect Networks builds on the company's strength in managing parallel file system data for some of the large deployments with the availability of the WOS-Bridge platform now for both DDN Lustre(R) and GPFSTM environments. WOS-Bridge deployed in conjunction with DDN's parallel file system appliances, EXAScalerTM and GRIDScalerTM, enables users for the first time to seamlessly manage, distribute and retain all of their data across local and multiple data centers and the cloud within a single namespace. DDN's unique new capability offers organizations a single view and access to both DDN Lustre and GPFS data, while delivering cloud benefits, including lower overall infrastructure cost, reduced management complexity, increased service levels and the ability to scale file systems to hundreds of PBs of capacity. Unlike competitive solutions that are unable to integrate high performance clusters with remote data centers or the Cloud, WOS-Bridge addresses these concerns by unifying the cluster, collaboration sites and the Cloud in a fully federated storage solution. By expanding the capability to both DDN Lustre and GPFS environments, WOS-Bridge provides a simple, automated platform for leveraging the cost, collaboration and archive benefits of the Cloud without sacrificing the productivity of high-performance local storage. Built to enable seamless integration between DDN's highly scalable parallel file system appliances, GRIDScaler and EXAScaler, and DDN's full spectrum object storage solution, WOS(R), WOS-Bridge consolidates array views of local and remote data to allow users to: Tier workloads to appropriate resources, such as migrating less time sensitive data to lower cost live archive or Cloud storage; Replicate critical data between high performance storage platforms and the cloud for advanced data protection and disaster recovery; Access, distribute and share content across remote and geographically distributed sites for simplified collaboration without any tradeoffs in performance -- all in a single solution with no extra third-party data migration software. With a single view of all local and cloud data, as well as automated data movement, WOS-Bridge removes the limitations created by storage silos, file counts or storage tier. The resulting high performance object storage pool can scale uniformly to trillions of objects, dramatically shrink administrative overhead, and slash TCO, all while meeting extreme capacity and I/O performance requirements.
DataDirect Networks, Inc. Announces Highest-Density Storage Solution with Capacity Exceeding 5 Petabytes in Single Rack
Jun 2 14
DataDirect Networks delivers another industry first with the availability of the densest storage solution with capacity of more than 5 PBs in a single rack. As the exponential growth of Big Data continues to put significant strain on IT infrastructures and budgets, organizations are looking for a long-term solution to successfully ingesting, storing, processing and distributing data. While performance remains a key storage requirement, increasingly HPC, financial services and large enterprise customers are also looking for solutions that help reduce data center sprawl, power consumption, administrative overhead and overall Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Tuned for these critical needs of these markets, the DDN(TM) ultrahigh density SS8460 disk drive enclosures, in conjunction with the SFA(TM)12K and SFA7700 storage platforms, now can handle up to 84 drives with 6 TB drives in just 4U rack space. By nearly doubling the amount of storage in a single rack than was previously available, DDN offers up to 40% more density as compared to even the higher density storage array offerings available in the market today, thereby slashing Operational Expense by half and delivering unprecedented levels of performance and scalability for organizations looking to solve their Big Data challenges. Getting beyond the accounting conventions of OPEX and CAPEX, storage provisioning for Big Data requires organizations rethink their approach to acquiring storage capacity, and balance capital outlay with a vendor's ability to provide innovation and long-term value add. DDN has incorporated multiple innovative features in its Storage Fusion Architecture (SFA) family of products and enclosures to make the company's storage solutions the world's densest. These features, combined with the ability to freely intermix SSD with SATA and SAS hard disk drives, even within a single enclosure, allow administrators to align Big Data to the appropriate tier and ensure higher media utilization, improved reliability and outstanding performance at the lowest TCO.
