Sharp Corporation Signs Agreement to Construct 52MW Solar Power Plant in Thailand
Jan 30 14
Sharp Corporation has signed an agreement with Serm Sang Palang Ngan Co. Ltd., to construct a 52MWdc solar power generation plant in Thailand. Construction will begin in January, 2014, with operations scheduled to start by the end of 2014. The plant will be operated by power producer SSP, which earlier placed a construction order for the project with Sharp, ITE, and ITD. Sharp will collaborate on the design and construction of the plant and will also supply the solar modules and balance of plant (BOP) for it. When the new plant comes online, the total amount of power generation capacity of Sharp solar power plants in Thailand will exceed 150 MW. The power plant will employ thin-film solar modules that offer superior performance characteristics under high temperatures. Sharp will supply approximately 400,000 of these modules-along with the requisite BOP-on an expansive area of about 1.3 square kilometers. Maintenance and operational control will be provided by Sharp Solar Maintenance Asia Co. Ltd. (SSMA), a Sharp subsidiary established in March 2011. Specially trained and qualified personnel will provide operational support by inspecting and servicing the entire plant.
Microsoft Corporation Enters Licensing Agreement with Sharp Corporation
Aug 7 12
Microsoft Corporation has entered into an IP licensing agreement with Sharp Corporation to use the latest Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT). The agreement covers the use of exFAT in smartphones distributed by Sharp based on the Android platform. Today's deal marks continued momentum by Microsoft for its exFAT technology licensing program. exFAT is a modern file system that facilitates large files for audiovisual media and enables seamless data portability for an easy interchange of files between desktop PCs and other electronic devices. exFAT improves on its predecessor, the FAT file system, and greatly expands the size of files that flash memory devices can handle -- by more than five times over the previous technology. It also greatly increases the speed with which those files can be accessed. The agreement allows Sharp to incorporate the latest file system from Microsoft in its product portfolio and deliver faster response times and greater storage capabilities to consumers around the globe.
