Emerson Collaborates with Facebook on Design for Rapid Deployment Data Center

Emerson Network Power announced that it is working with Facebook to design and deploy the company's second data center building in Luleå, Sweden. "Luleå 2" will be the pilot for Facebook's new "rapid deployment data center" (RDDC), which was designed and developed in collaboration with Emerson Network Power's data center design team. Facebook's RDDC incorporates a number of modular design elements, including pre-fabricated materials and on-site assembly, to enable an increase in the speed of deployment and reduction in material use. Luleå 2 will span approximately 125,000 sq. ft. and Emerson will deliver over 250 shippable modules, including power skids, evaporative air handlers, a water treatment plant, and data center superstructure solutions. It will be built next to Facebook's first data center building in Luleå, which came online in June 2013. Like its predecessor, Luleå 2 will be one of the most efficient and sustainable data centers in the world, powered by 100% renewable energy and featuring the latest in Open Compute Project server, storage, mechanical, and electrical designs.

Emerson Network Power Unveils New Automated DCIM Workflow Module

Emerson Network Power announced the availability of the Trellis Process Manager, a new automated DCIM workflow module. The new Trellis module creates, tracks and provides views on data center workflow allowing organizations to improve the execution and efficiency of standard data center processes. Combined with the other modules of the complete Trellis DCIM solution, Trellis Process Manager also allows users to immediately see the impact of proposed changes on the data center, improving costs and efficiencies by enabling accurate planning. The Trellis Process Manager enforces a process, including necessary approvals for making changes to the data center infrastructure.

Emerson Network Power Introduces Liebert HPC-S Chiller in US and Canada

Emerson Network Power has introduced the Liebert HPC-S Chiller in the US and Canada. The unique, freecooling chiller enables small to medium size data centers to achieve breakthrough efficiency by creating an end-to-end chilled water system with integrated controls that can help dramatically lower the facility's power usage effectiveness (PUE) rating. Optimized to supply chilled water to indoor data center thermal management equipment, the Liebert HPC-S Chiller features integrated freecooling technology that is more effective than air economizers and mitigates the operational limitations and concerns commonly associated with the technology. The unit's freecooling mode allows it to cool water utilizing dramatically less energy by reducing compressor usage when the external ambient temperatures are below the chilled water return temperature. The Liebert HPC-S Chiller has the additional advantage in data center applications of reliable operation below 0 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 18 degrees Celsius). The freecooling chiller employs an optimized design with over-sized components that enable it to operate at higher outdoor ambient temperatures (as high as 78 degrees Fahrenheit /26 degrees Celsius), thereby maximizing time available for economizing operation. The integrated Liebert iCOM control system adds intelligent control capabilities that allow the unit to adapt quickly to changing environmental conditions and instantaneously move to free cooling mode whenever conditions are appropriate. The system is easily networked to provide efficient control of the chiller or group of chillers without the need for a separate building automation system. Additionally, the Liebert HPC-S is compatible with the Liebert CRV row-based chilled water-based cooling unit. Coupling the Liebert CRV Optimized Aisle Control feature with cold aisle containment and the Liebert HPC-S chiller enables an end-to-end chilled water solution that offers increased energy efficiency and more control for the end user. The configuration is capable of achieving a mechanical PUE of 1.20, delivering maximum availability by ensuring that each watt of power is used to cool the servers.
