George Goldfarb was the top executive of Maurices Incorporated even before he was promoted to company president last week. But now he has greater oversight over the rapidly growing company, which has more than 800 specialty women's clothing stores in 44 states. The Ascena Retail Group, Maurices' parent company, announced the appointment to the newly created position Thursday, saying it was effective immediately. The promotion will allow David R. Jaffe, Ascena's president and chief executive, to focus more time on Ascena's growth. Goldfarb had worked in public accounting before joining Maurices in 1985. Starting as a tax accounting supervisor, he rose through the ranks, leading several areas of the organization before becoming chief financial officer in 2003. He most recently was executive vice president and chief operating officer, a position that will not be filled.

Maurices Incorporated reported unaudited sales results for the fourth quarter and full year ended July 30, 2011. For the quarter, the company’s net sales were $183.0 million compared to $183.0 million a year ago. Consolidated comparable store sales were 3%. For the full year, the company’s net sales were $776.5 million compared to $680.7 million a year ago. Consolidated comparable store sales were 10%.
