Fondo Strategico Italiano May Reportedly Takeover STM

Fondo Strategico Italiano S.p.A. may acquire STMicroelectronics NV (ENXTPA:STM) (STM). Il Sole 24 Ore reported without citing name of sources that Italy's Treasury has engaged banks to express a fairness opinion on transferring 13.7% stake in STM to Fondo Strategico Italiano. According to the report, the opinion will start with that on the price and reports in the past months suggested that the Treasury may cash in around €800 million.

Samsung May Seek Saipem Acquisition

Samsung C&T Corporation (KOSE:A000830) may be interested Saipem (BIT:SPM) after its controlling group Eni SpA (BIT:ENI) no longer considers it strategic, Italian business daily MF-Milano Finanza reported, quoting market talk. Fondo Strategico Italiano S.p.A. as well as Gulf sovereign wealth funds, are said to also be interested in Saipem.

Fondo Strategico Italiano Reportedly Eyeing Deoleo

Fondo Strategico Italiano S.p.A. has made a bid to acquire stake in Deoleo SA (CATS:OLE). New York Times reported that The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG) and Rhône Group LLC also offer to acquire the stake. According to the report, Spain's agriculture minister, Miguel Arias Canete, said recently that the government ‘is following this process very closely’ and ‘we don't want the company to be cut up into bits.’ Reuters reported that the government is interested in buying a minority stake in Deoleo.
