Botswana Telecommunications' Privatisation Modified
Aug 19 14
The government of Botswana has passed a bill to modify the terms of the planned allocation of shares in the upcoming privatization of Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC). The state is selling its 49% stake in the operator via an initial public offer (IPO), which is scheduled to take place on August 22, 2014 with the sale open only to citizens of Botswana. 5% of the sale is reserved for BTC employees, while a loophole in earlier legislation could allow non-Botswana employees to buy shares. The new amendment has fixed the loophole and only Botswana's citizens will be allowed to participate in the IPO.
