New Albertsons Inc. moved Jim Rice to be president of Shaw's Supermarkets, from his previous job as interim president of its Chicago-based Jewel-Osco division. Meanwhile, Shane Sampson is leaving his job as the Shaw's president to run Jewel-Osco.

Shaw's to Close its Supermarket on Worcester Road

Shaw's announced that it will close its supermarket on Worcester Road by Feb. 20, and it will close a store in Medford. The stores identified have not been profitable for quite some time, and despite the best efforts of the company and associates, they have not been able to reposition them to better compete in the marketplace and don't anticipate being able to change this trend. The company said it does not have plans to close any of its other stores.

Shaw's Supermarket to Close Six Locations

Shaw's supermarket announced that it will close six stores in August 2013. The company said that it plans to shutter grocery stores in Fall River, Fairhaven, Stoughton, and Taunton in Massachusetts and two Rhode Island stores, in Westerly and Woonsocket, by August 3, 2013. The stores identified have not been profitable for quite some time, and despite the best efforts of the company and its associates. The stores that are closing are under the Shaw's name.
