General Dynamics Land Systems Selects UTC Aerospace Systems to Develop Generator Subsystem for Abrams ECP1 Modernization Program
Oct 22 13
UTC Aerospace Systems has been selected by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) to design, develop, build and qualify the Generator Subsystem for the Abrams ECP1 modernization upgrade. The generator subsystem includes both the electric generator and CAN-bus-enabled digital controller. Prototype systems will be delivered to GDLS in the second half of 2014 for installation and qualification field testing on the Abrams. The Abrams M1 main battle tank provides unprecedented mobility, survivability, and firepower for the warfighter. To enhance its future combat superiority, the US Army awarded the Abrams ECP1 engineering development contract to GDLS in September 2012 to implement and integrate a group of system improvements into a single upgrade program for the M1A2SEPv2 baseline tank. The objective of the effort is to prepare the Abrams tank to accept additional Army-directed requirements in the future without impacting current vehicle performance. The generator subsystem, to be built by the company's Space Systems business, located in Rockford, Ill., will enable GDLS to regain critical Space, Weight, Power and Cooling (SWaP-C) margin on the Abrams main battle tank, now slated to be an active component of the Army's fleet through 2050.
UTC Aerospace Systems Wins Follow-on Laser Warning Contract
Oct 22 13
UTC Aerospace Systems has been awarded a five year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Army with a total contract ceiling amount of $208.5 million for the procurement of AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets and associated parts and services. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp. In addition, the U.S. Army has also awarded a five-year IDIQ contract with a total contract ceiling amount of $47 million for the procurement of specified AN/AVR-2B(V) Laser Detecting Sets spares and components. These contracts are follow-ons to a highly successful initial five-year IDIQ that was awarded to Goodrich in 2007. To date, the company has delivered over 10,000 aviation and ground laser warning systems to the United States and other armed forces around the world. This includes over 1,300 AN/AVR-2B(V) systems delivered under the previous IDIQ contract. Under that contract the company received numerous customer accolades for achieving 73 consecutive months of on-time, in-full deliveries.
