Catholic Health Initiatives Set to Shed 1,500 U.S. Jobs

Catholic Health Initiatives of Englewood announced that it will eliminate 1,500 administrative and support positions from the organization's 105 hospitals and other health care facilities across the country over the next two months.

Catholic Health Initiatives Appoints Peter Banko as Senior Vice President and Group Executive Officer of Its East/Southeast Division as Well as Chief Integration Officer

Catholic Health Initiatives has appointed Peter Banko as senior vice president and group executive officer of its east/southeast division as well as chief integration officer. Banko, currently president and CEO of CHI St. Vincent in Little Rock, Ark., will oversee CHI St. Vincent; CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, TN; CHI St. Joseph Health in Reading, PA.; and Saint Clare's Health System, Denville, NJ. Banko also will direct the transition process for Memorial Health System of East Texas, which will become part of Houston-based CHI St. Luke's Health over the next several months; and will assume responsibility for the CHI national integration team. He begins his new role Sept. 22, and replaces M. Elizabeth 'Beth' Obrien, who left CHI last month for an executive position with PeaceHealth in Washington. Banko, who has more than three decades of experience in health care, served for four years as COO and vice president of CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, Corpus Christi, Texas. He also served for three years as senior vice president for PhyAmerica Physician Group, Durham, N.C. Earlier, he held multiple leadership positions at Saint Clare's Health System in Denville, N.J.

Catholic Health Denies Divestment Of KentuckyOne Health

Catholic Health Initiatives denied any plans to sell KentuckyOne Health Inc., according to Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Lofton. Lofton said, "It's a rumor as far as I know. We've not had any meetings, discussions about that. CHI is fully committed, has no intentions or plans to sell all or part of KentuckyOne."
