Disney Interactive, Inc. Key Developments

Disney Interactive to Close Colorado Operation

Disney Interactive will close its Colorado operation as part of division-wide cutbacks that include cutting about a quarter of its staff. The Disney division's offices in Colorado as well as in Chicago, New Jersey, South Korea and Hyderabad, India, will be shuttered and some 700 jobs will be cut.

Disney Interactive Expects to Begin Round of Layoffs

Disney Interactive is expected to begin a round of layoffs. The cuts could come as soon. The layoffs would follow other recent cuts. In January 2013, Disney Interactive cut 50 jobs and closed Austin, Texas-based Junction Point Studios, the developer responsible for the Epic Mickey titles. In January 2011, the company shut down Propaganda Games, the development studio responsible for the Tron: Evolution video game, and laid off about 200 people. Disney Interactive has not given notice of any layoffs in 2014. (The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires companies with 75 workers or more to notify the state, within 60 days of the layoffs, of forthcoming reductions that eliminate 50 or more jobs.).

Rosetta Stone Inc. Announces Partnership with Disney Interactive to Launch New Web Video Series

Rosetta Stone Inc. has announced a partnership with Disney Interactive to launch new web video series. The partnership with Disney provides well-timed promotion for Rosetta Stone Kids Lingo Word Builder, the sequel to the company's first hit kids app for children, Lingo Letter Sounds-which became the second most downloaded app in Apple's kids' education category when it was released earlier this year.
