Brightree LLC Key Developments

Brightree Announces Compliance with New Home Health Regulations

Brightree announced that, in advance of the July 1, 2014, deadline, its Brightree Home Health solution is compliant with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) change request 8441 (CR-8441) and also includes updates to support the inclusion of Health Insurance Prospective Payment System (HIPPS) codes on Medicare Advantage home health claims. CMS CR-8441 requires that home health claims with episodes that begin on or after July 1, 2014, must report the National Provider Identifier (NPI) and name of the physician who certifies/re-certifies the patient's eligibility for home health services if this physician is different than the attending physician who signs the patient's plan of care. In addition, home health agencies must continue to report the NPI and name of the attending physician who signs the patient's plan of care. Medicare Advantage plan claims must have a Health Insurance Prospective Payment System (HIPPS) code for home health services in order for home health agencies to be reimbursed for services delivered. Medicare Advantage claims with dates of service of July 1, 2014, and beyond will be rejected without the appropriate HIPPS codes. The Brightree Home Health solution has been enhanced to support the CR-8441 regulation by including the ability to capture the certifying physician when the certifying physician is different than the attending physician who signs the patient's plan of care. The solution will automatically compare the certifying physician who signs the face-to-face encounter to the attending physician who signs the plan of care and, if they are different, will place both the certifying and attending physician names and NPI numbers on electronic and paper-based Medicare claims to streamline workflow and eliminate claim submission errors. Additionally, the solution has been enhanced to support the Medicare Advantage HIPPS Codes regulation by calculating the HIPPS code from the home health Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) and automatically including the calculated code on Medicare Advantage home health paper and/or electronic claims. For those Medicare Advantage plans that require information in addition to the HIPPS Codes, the solution uses a configurable approach to allow additional data to be included on the claims.

Brightree(R) Announces Compliance with New Hospice Item Set Requirements

Brightree announced that its Brightree Hospice solution is compliant with the new Hospice Item Set (HIS) data collection and associated electronic file submission and validation process in advance of the July 1, 2014, deadline. Effective July 1, 2014, hospice organizations will be required to collect and report data related to seven National Quality Forum (NQF) measures. Questions related to pain screening, pain assessment, dyspnea screening, dyspnea treatment, patients on an opioid given a bowel regimen and patient treatment preferences and beliefs/values are included in the new measures. Additionally, the Hospice Quality Reporting Program requires hospice organizations to submit the data collected at two intervals: Admission (HIS Admission record) and Discharge (HIS Discharge). The Brightree Hospice solution, powered by Brightree's CareTouch Logic(TM) engine that drives clinical processes, have been updated to include the mandatory questions and best practice workflows to support the new HIS data collection requirements. Clinicians can easily capture the necessary data electronically at the point of care, and the HIS document will be generated on admission and discharge. Once the document has been reviewed and approved, the solution will create the files that are required to be submitted to CMS. Tasks are generated to ensure timely and accurate completion of documents and submission of files. Next, hospice organizations can electronically submit the files to the CMS Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (QIES) Assessment Submission and Processing (ASAP) system. To validate the submission, customers will download validation files from the CMS Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reporting (CASPER) system and upload to the Brightree Hospice solution. The solution streamlines organization workflow by automatically processing and posting the validation file and alerting the hospice organization of any exceptions that need to be addressed to ensure accurate claim submission.

Brightree Announces the Release of New Brightree Document Management Capabilities

Brightree announced the release of new Brightree Document Management capabilities that strengthen a home medical equipment (HME) provider's ability to protect reimbursements and respond more efficiently to additional documentation requests (ADRs). Unlike document imaging solutions on the market, Brightree's document-aware system is native to the Brightree platform, which creates seamless workflows between Brightree's core billing system and the process of obtaining, storing and accessing reimbursement documentation. Built-in intelligence checks for payer- and product-specific documentation requirements give providers confidence that the proper documentation is on-hand before confirming or delivering orders. This helps eliminate the risk of fulfilling non-reimbursable orders and not maintaining proper support for ADRs. Advanced recognition technology ensures 100% of Brightree system-generated documents make it to the right place automatically without any human intervention, reducing the manual labor associated with document filing. Since implementing Brightree Document Management, Advanced Medical DME has been able to dramatically increase efficiencies across its reimbursement team. Key enhancements available in the new release in July include: Integrated AuditResponseTM Workflow -- Integrated AuditResponseTM workflow reduces audit response times by 60% to 70% for Medicare audits. Users can directly respond to audits within the Brightree platform, eliminating the need to navigate back-and-forth between separate billing and audit response systems to obtain audit information and supporting documentation. Providers can see their audit status directly from the patient record and can easily identify document history with color-coded identifications. New document consolidation and integrated print/fax tools also reduce response time when responding to non-Medicare audits; Workflow -- EasySort workflow reduces the effort associated with managing multi-page scanned documents, especially during the patient intake process. After scanning, users can electronically manipulate documents by changing the page order; separate and sort pages into multiple documents; remove individual pages from documents; and/or file directly into the patient's record; Electronic Fax Integration -- Now providers can consolidate multiple documents into a single fax to respond to audits and appeals faster, while also maintaining proper audit history of those documents within Brightree Document Management; Unified Administrative Worklist -- A unified administrative worklist and consolidated workflow enables scanning personnel to monitor unfiled documents and transfer management and ownership of aging document batches to better leverage review and indexing resources. Current customers will receive notification from their Brightree representative around the new features.
