Burton Snowboards to Close its Plant in Upstate New York

Burton Snowboards is closing its plant in upstate New York. The company will close its Feura Bush facility outside Albany sometime in mid-April. Burton lists the economy as the reason for closing the plant, which employs 72 full-time warehouse workers, supervisors and seasonal workers who manufacture snowboarding equipment and accessories such as bindings, boots and outerwear. In 2010, Burton announced it would cease manufacturing in Vermont and move production to Austria because of high manufacturing costs.
Burton Snowboards Announces the Opening of Two New East Coast Partner Stores
Oct 15 13
Burton Snowboards announced the opening of two new East Coast partner stores: the first is in the DC metro area and the second is a pop-up Burton partner store in northern New Jersey. Both new stores were opened in partnership with local retailers and will service the broad snowboard and winter lifestyle communities in each region. First up is the new Burton DC partner store. Located at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, Maryland, Burton DC opened its doors earlier this fall due to a partnership with long-time Burton retailer Shenk & Tittle. The new Burton DC Store pays homage to Vermont's roots with many handcrafted New England design details, including shelves, tables and fixtures that were custom-made in Vermont. Burton's long heritage in snowboarding is prevalent throughout the store, especially on the 'history wall' where archival snowboards and photographs are on display. In addition to the new store in DC, Burton also opened a pop-up shop in northern New Jersey in partnership with local retailer Mount Everest.
Eco-Friendly Outerwear Line from The Burton Corporation & Mountain Dew in Stores
Nov 15 12
The Burton Corporation Snowboards and Mountain Dew announce the arrival of the new 2013 Green Mountain Project outerwear collection, which utilizes sustainable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles, now available in stores worldwide. The new collection marks the next phase of the Burton x Mountain Dew partnership introduced last year, built on the shared focus of improving sustainability in apparel and outerwear. For 2013, this vision expands with the launch of the GMP outerwear collection, which includes three stylish and eco-friendly jackets and two pants for men, and two jackets and one pant for women, all featuring fabric created from the pellets of recycled bottles. In addition, the collection also implements recycled and natural blended materials that have a lower impact on the environment whenever possible, such as GMP Hemp Fortex, 3M(TM) Thinsulate(TM) insulation with recycled fibers, DRYRIDE EcoNanoshell(TM) 2L Fabric and 3-Layer Hemp Ripstop Fabric and recycled taffeta and mesh linings.
