Rod Bulmer, Deputy CEO of The Co-operative Banking Group, has announced his intention to leave the business and step down from the Boards of the Co-operative Banking Group Limited and The Co-operative Bank Plc in 2014. Up until his departure Rod will continue to play a crucial role in the running of the business and in particular the detailed work being undertaken by The Co-operative Bank and The Co-operative Group, in relation to the ongoing Capital Management Exercise.

The Co-operative Group announced appointment of Richard Pym as Chair of The Co-operative Banking Group and The Co-operative Bank. Richard Pym will join The Co-operative Bank with immediate effect. In his new role he will act as an independent non-executive chair. In a 40-year career in business, Richard has held a series of senior roles, including Group Chief Executive of Alliance & Leicester. He is currently Chairman of UK Asset Resolution, a position he will retain as a completely independent part of his portfolio. He succeeds Paul Flowers, who has been Chair of The Co-operative Banking Group and The Co-operative Bank for three years, and is stepping down from both roles and leaving both Boards.

Barry Tootell, CEO, The Co-operative Banking Group, has chosen to step down from the business. His responsibilities will be assumed with immediate effect by Rod Bulmer, who becomes acting CEO of the Banking Group until a permanent replacement is announced in due course. Barry took over the role of CEO to lead the banking business through the potential acquisition of the Lloyds Banking Group Verde Business. Following the recent decision by The Co-operative Group and Banking Group Boards to withdraw from the Verde process, Barry has decided that the time is now right for him to stand down from his role. Rod Bulmer has been with The Co-operative Group for 6 years and during that period has held of number of senior executive roles within The Banking Group, most notably within its retail banking operation. Prior to joining The Co-operative Group he headed up UK Retail Distribution for Santander.
