Sealord Group Limited Key Developments

Sealord Plans to Cut Staff

Sealord's plan to cut staff at its Port Nelson complex will affect 150 people rather than the 97 mentioned by the group - but it says the process workers will likely all get new jobs quickly. The group had failed to mention about 50 workers supplied to Sealord by Advanced Personnel Services, some of whom had worked there for years. If they were included, estimated the Nelson economy would lose $5.25 million a year, based on an average $35,000 wage.

Sealord Group Limited Announces Executive Changes

Sealord Group Limited appointed Steve Yung as its next boss. Steve Yung, most recently managing director of McCain Foods in Australia and New Zealand will take over from Graham Stuart at the end of next month. Like Stuart, he will be based in Auckland Yung has worked in the food industry for 30 years and has experience in Canada as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Sealord Mulls Argentina Hoki Operation’s Sale

Sealord Group Limited might sell Argentina hoki operation. Sealord is on the verge of either a fire-sale of its disastrous Argentina hoki operation or forcing it into bankruptcy and walking away. Either of the option will leave the company with a $40 million loss. Nippon Suisan Kaisha is said to be trying to exit the company. Sealord Board chairman Matanuku Mahuika said Sealord wanted to be out of Argentina by the end of the company's financial year in September 2013. "The number we are giving them is in the vicinity of $40m," he said. "The situation has deteriorated where there are now no buyers. The whole industry is in a catastrophic state."
