Talks brokered by Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Bill Shorten have failed to end a union blockade that has gridlocked a $1.3 billion Melbourne development by the Grocon Pty Limited. The company and the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union attended private talks before Fair Work Australia president Iain Ross. No deal was reached. The Victorian Supreme Court has ordered the union to stop picketing four Grocon sites. Grocon has alleged in court documents that the dispute began after it refused to allow the union to appoint exeternal candiates as shop stewards on the Grocon project. The company faces delays in an application for the Supreme Court to rule that the CFMEU and some of its officers are in contempt of orders to stop the blockade.
