First National Bank Mulls Acquisitions

First National Bank is seeking acquisitions, reported Ventures Africa citing a report from BDlive. According to a BDlive report, First National Bank will try to get a banking licence in Ghana, build up the brand organically and then make a small to mid-sized acquisition to build scale. Jacques Celliers, Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank said, "South Africa's economic climate had changed and retail banking market was becoming more competitive in the region, hence the decision to expand further." Jacques added, regarding the company's Ghana market entry plans, " can't always wait for deals."

NCR Inks South Africa Deal with FNB

FNB announced that it is automating and innovating routine banking transactions and improving customer service by installing 1,250 SelfServ 4 units from US consumer transaction technologies firm NCR. According to NCR, the SelfServ 4 is an ATM-like kiosk that FNB has branded "Slimline ATMs" in their retail sites and remote sites not served by traditional branches and conventional ATMs nationwide. FNB announced that the SelfServ 4 offers consumers the convenience of bypassing not only teller lines but even actual banking interaction and quickly completing typical branch transactions, such as account maintenance and financial product research and purchases. By migrating routine transactions to self-service channels, in-bank tellers can dedicate more time to customer service, facilitating high-value product purchases and cross-sales.
